Hi. I have been working on a case where I needed to upgrade a Windows 7 Professional to Windows 7 Enterprise. As far as I have found, upgrading from Pro to Enterprise this isn’t a valid Upgrade path from Microsoft – But there’s a “Workaround”.
Procedure:
- Open Registry, and navigate to “HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\Current Version
- Find entries: EditionID and ProductName
- Change EditionID to: Enterprise
- Change ProductName to Windows 7 Enterprise
- Find entries: EditionID and ProductName
- Run setup.exe from Windows 7 Enterprise DVD and select Upgrade when prompted
- Select to collect updated installation files.
- Let the upgrade Complete, and after some time you have successfully upgraded your Windows 7 Professional to Windows 7 Enterprise.
- All files and installed programs are still present after the upgrade.
Be aware that I take no responsibility of the upgrade. Things might go wrong, and that’s your responsibility. I have done this procedure a couple of times, and it worked without any issues every time 🙂
